One Beautiful Year

Happy birthday to Gabriel!  Our little guy is officially one year old!  (I am a little thankful that our weekly picture adventures are over, since it has become increasingly more difficult to get Gabe to hold still for a picture, even with Daddy's help!)

I decided to try something I saw online - I filled Gabe's crib up with balloons and stuck him in it.  After some initial confusion, he loved it!!

Gabe decided to wake me up at 1am on his birthday - perhaps to remind me?  I definitely need no reminder of his birth, haha!
We had a little family party after dinner, with a small cake and candles for Gabe.  Then he opened up his birthday presents from Mommy & Daddy and those sent from his Uncle Gregory, Auntie Christina, and cousins Noah & Addison (Thank you!).

It's amazing to think how far this little angel has come in one year.  He's talking (sort of), walking (almost!), and amazing us every day!  Thank you, God, for this beautiful blessing!

52 Weeks Already!

Well, we've officially hit 52 weeks!  Tomorrow is Gabe's 1st birthday.

Here's a video of Gabe walking with his push toy.  And one of him stacking his blocks all on his own (I was eavesdropping!).

Now that Gabe's a year, I've decided we will drop down to nursing only first thing in the morning and right before bed.  He can use up my large frozen stash of breast milk during the day, for as long as it lasts.  Not nursing during the day is bittersweet for me - I will miss the quiet intimate moments but it will allow me not to have to drop everything to nurse him on demand.  Thankfully, he drinks out of various cups really well, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Other updates include moving to size 3 diapers and size 6-9mo clothing, plus a new tooth on the top (that makes a total of 6!).  He still hates getting up first thing in the morning but is a happy guy once he opens his eyes.
It took the flash of the camera to wake him up!
The newest tooth has arrived!

Here's a video of the little man complaining about being strapped to his chair.

This week marked the anniversary of our hospital adventure last year.  I realized I never posted our birth story, so I will have to do that soon.  At least then it will be documented if Gabe ever wants to look back on it (not particularly sure I want to, haha!).

Gabe has been really good at identifying things already!  He knows what socks are and that they go on his feet.  He'll even put lay the sock over his foot when I ask!  But of course, he didn't want to in this video, haha!

For Halloween at the end of the week, we dressed up our little pumpkin as just that, a little pumpkin!  Daddy wanted to give candy out this year (it might be his last one at home and not out trick-or-treating!), so Mommy took Gabriel to three of our neighbors' houses to show off his outfit.  I think he was really puzzled as to why we were outside in the dark!

This is our son's last night as a less-than-one-year old!

51 Weeks

This week Gabriel turned 51 weeks.  Only 1 more to go to a year!

Our little guy is definitely a morning person like Mommy.  He has trouble getting up and getting out of bed like Daddy, but once he's up, he is so happy!

Gabe spends a lot of time checking out his toys and figuring out how they work.
Learning how to hold the phone

Checking under the hood

Checking the tire pressure

Figured out how to put the letters on the train
We splurged on a family photo shoot, complete with "cake smash" (a new trend where babies get a birthday cake to eat smash on their 1st birthday - with a professional photographer capturing the fun mess), a little ahead of his first birthday.  (In case you're interested, here's the link to our photographer's page: Photography by Suzanne and the page for our baker:  Chantel's Sweet Treats)  I couldn't decide on only a few pictures, so here are way too many!  (I came up with some "rules" for cake smash photos, too:  baby should be naked in a bathtub at home for easy clean-up and the cake should have no food coloring, haha!)

Mommy dotted his nose with blue frosting

The cake did not stay on the stand, haha!
